They are moulded from a special grade of UV-stabilised polyethylene, which is designed for long outdoor life. The material used allows the mats to flex without breaking even under the weight of a heavy vehicle, while being rigid enough to spread the load, which minimises damage to soft ground.

2-way and 4-way Ground Mat Joiners are also manufactured by Design Flow. They are used to clip mats together to form a continuous roadway. They prevent the mats from separating and lifting relative to one another, which can create a hazard.
To join mats simply rotate the bolts to line up the tabs with the slots in the mats, insert and rotate 90 degrees.
